The very first Ukrainian to come to America was part of the original Jamestown Virginia colonists in 1607. The first main influx of Ukrainian immigrants to America was seen at the boom of the Industrial Revolution. These immigrants were chasing the 'American Dream' and were responding to a high demand for cheap labor workers in the states. Those who were granted access through Ellis Island found work in factories, steel mills, and mines. Many of these Ukrainian immigrants settled in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Currently, New York City is home to the largest concentration of Ukrainian-Americans.
